BRIDGEWATER, Maine — Volunteer fire departments, like Bridgewater’s, are in constant need of firefighters. But to become a firefighter takes dedication, with countless hours of training necessary on a regular basis.
Four individuals recently completed training to help them better serve the Bridgewater Fire Department and area residents when an emergency occurs.
“The Bridgewater Fire Department tested four of our newest members this weekend (May 2-3), with classroom and hands-on skills objectives that prepare them for safe careers in the fire service,” said Matthew Powers, training officer with the BFD.
According to Powers, all four individuals passed successfully.
“Mike Bradstreet, Derek Rusby, Reid Bradstreet and Scott Belair passed a two-day, 10-hour final evaluation that tested skills ranging from emergency communication to interior fire attack,” said Powers.
Powers said the evaluation came after many training sessions this spring where the members learned to work in teams to accomplish fireground goals in a safe and competent manor.
