HOULTON — The Maine Downtown Center’s Downtown Institute is coming to Aroostook County Monday, May 4, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Courtyard Café at 61 Main St., in Houlton.
Those who may benefit from this meeting include a: downtown building owner; business or individual looking to buy a building; community member who wants to see empty storefronts filled with businesses.
Some of the topics to be discussed include:
• Learning how to get started in building revitalization.
• Basics in development.
• Historic Tax Credits.
• Energy efficiency up-dates.
• Second and third floor usage.
• Successful partnerships in downtown settings.
A case study of a Maine downtown building is used to bring information people can use for their building. Speakers include Lorain Francis from Maine Downtown Center, Greg Paxton from Maine Preservation and Mike Lyne from JHR Development of Maine.

Thanks to community sponsorships, there is no cost to attend the Downtown Institute, but pre-registration is required for headcount. Participants are expected from the St. John Valley to Washington County.
