HOULTON, Maine — The Windham Chamber Singers will be in concert at the Court Street Baptist Church on Saturday, April 11, at 7 p.m. as part of their spring tour.
According to the group’s conductor, and Houlton native Dr. Richard Nickerson, “I have always been impressed with the support given to the arts by the Houlton community. We are all very excited about our visit!”
The concert is free and open to the public. A free-will offering will be taken.
The Windham Chamber Singers gained international attention in 1996 when they won the Prize of Vienna, the highest award given, at the International Youth Music Festival in Vienna, Austria. Since then, they have captured the hearts of audiences everywhere from Carnegie Hall to the White House to St. Patrick’s Cathedral.
They have appeared in concert with artists including Kenny Rogers, Andy Williams, John Rutter, Josh Groban, Jodi Benson, Susan Egan, Noel Paul Stookey (of Peter, Paul and Mary), Capathia Jenkins, Sutton Foster, Norm Lewis, Lakisha Jones, Rachel York and numerous times as special guests of the Portland Symphony Orchestra.
Each year the choir tours the Northeast, presenting assemblies and workshops at area schools in addition to public concerts. This year marks the 27th anniversary of the Windham Chamber Singers.
