Pet Talk

So the last time in Pet Talk, I talked to about two special dogs that came to us, after being tied outside for eight years. We are so happy to say that because of that column and some very nice people, both boys have been adopted! Great job everyone for sure. So I thought since it worked so well for those two, why not tell you about a couple cats, in hopes it helps them too?

First, let me tell you about Maggie. Some of you that follow us on Facebook may remember her. She came to us skin and bones back in October. She was extremely dehydrated and malnourished. She was so scared that we could hardly touch her. She immediately went to our vet, where she was tested and given meds. We then sent her into foster care.
In foster care, she blossomed into a beautiful girl. She gained over 7 pounds and learned that human touch is not all that bad. She has since returned to the shelter and sadly, still sits here waiting for a home. She is a long-haired black cat, gorgeous markings. She is still quiet, but would make a great addition to any family. She had a rough start to life, but we promised her she will get the life she deserves.
Next is our girl Madeline. Again, some of you may know her from Facebook, as she was quite popular. She was hit by a car on the North Road in front of Tractor Supply. Her eye had exploded and was protruding and her nose was broken. She was scared and in so much pain. I met the girl who found her and took her home with me. I called our vet and took her in. She had to have surgery on her eye and have her nose reset. She came back to my house and spent five weeks, getting meds and rehabbing. She too learned that human touch is not a bad thing. Once she was assessed by the vet and deemed fit for adoption, she came back to the shelter. She “looks” a little funny, as her nose never healed and left a hole in her face. But we tell her everyday, she is beautiful and to embrace imperfection. She is about four years old, gray and white. She loves to be held and lay on your lap. She just wants a quiet home, where she can continue to blossom.
Both of these girls required lots of TLC, love, money and time. But its what we do at HHS. We do it all, the late nights, the stress, the tears, because they need us, because we know that day will come when we smile as they walk out the door with their new families. We are hoping for these two girls, that time is soon!
