PRESQUE ISLE — A community forum will be held Thursday, Feb. 26, seeking public input on how to support and save local businesses.
The Presque Isle Kiwanis Club, host of the event, hopes the gathering will help prevent more businesses from closing but rather find answers on how to encourage economic growth in the area.
“The Presque Isle Kiwanis Club is inviting the public to attend a community forum event on Feb. 26 at the Presque Isle Middle School from 6-8 p.m. The forum, ‘Saving Our Businesses,’ will bring together business, civic and economic development leaders, along with the general public, to discuss important issues impacting the county community, including recent business closings, youth out-migration, unemployment, ways to grow the county community economy and other developments,” said Shawn Cunningham, spokesperson for the event.
Cunningham said the forum will include panelists from the local business and community sector coming together to have a frank discussion about what’s happening in this region economically and ways to improve upon it.
There will also be an opportunity to hear questions and comments from the attending public.
“The hope is to have an open dialogue whereas to make a positive impact going forward,” she said.
“Although no finite resolution will come out of this forum discussion,” said Cunningham, “hopefully it will result in some brainstorming and ideas with a positive approach on how to proceed moving forward.”
