The Hill: Part three
REMEMBER WHEN
In the late 1950s and early ‘60s, some people just couldn’t afford toboggans or sleds so we made do with what we had. I can say for sure that an early ‘50s car hood worked great.
It was kind of molded with a turned up nose that kept the snow off you in more powdery snow conditions and it would go like crazy because of the smooth paint job on the, what was once, top of the hood.
Another pair of friends I had at the time lived in Castle Hill and we took a Saturday afternoon to slide on the hill across the road from the Castle Hill Grange. We used a ‘52 Chevrolet car hood. It worked great until the last run we made when it started to spin like a saucer. Needless to say that about halfway down the hill, we, all three, were pitched off— landing mostly face-first in the snow.
Those really were the days when we had fun.
Iwould like to hear what the residents of the area “remember when”? Please email me to let me know what you think.
