Following Saturday’s overtime loss at Foxcroft Academy, Caribou bounced back in impressive fashion Monday afternoon against John Bapst.
The Vikings cranked up the intensity on the defensive end of the floor and it led to numerous fast-break baskets in the 77-29 distmantling of the Crusaders at CHS.
Dayne Savage, who scored 27 points in the loss two days earlier, had 17 points to pace the offense. Colby Holdsworth added 16 and Donovan Savage tossed in 10. All 11 Viking players scored in the game, with the bench contributing 26 points led by Gabe Massey’s seven and six each by Nate Wall and Nick Allen.
Nate Smith scored 12 points for 0-12 John Bapst.
The two teams had also met Thursday at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor, with the Vikings winning that one, 58-42, behind Holdsworth’s season-high 18 points.
Caribou is now 8-4 on the season and in seventh place in Eastern Maine Class B. A trip to Hancock County looms this weekend as the Vikes play MDI Friday and Ellsworth Saturday.
The Viking girls lost all four games they played last week and are now 1-11. Caribou dropped road games to Houlton, John Bapst and Foxcroft Academy before falling at home to the Crusaders Monday.
Coach Ryan Deprey’s team will also be on the road for games Friday at undefeated MDI and Saturday at No. 6 Ellsworth.
The Limestone-MSSM Eagle girls got back in the win column Saturday, beating Fort Kent, 40-31.
Kassee Albert had 10 points and 11 rebounds, Jessica Lindsay 10 points and Madeline Williams 12 rebounds for the 4-9 Eagles of coach Becky West.
The Eagle boys were defeated by Ashland and Fort Kent last week and are now 2-9 on the season.
