MARS HILL, Maine — Squads from Central Aroostook Junior High School, Presque Isle, Houlton and Caribou also competed in the Aroostook League middle school cheerleading championships Jan. 7, with the host Panthers taking home first place and Caribou placing second.
All four squads were able to perform their routine twice for the panel of judges. The two performances were averaged to achieve a final score.
Individual awards were presented in the following categories:
Sixth/Seventh jumps — Clara Kohlbacher, PIMS and Libby Grass, CAJHS.
Eighth-grade jumps — Gabriella Guiod, Houlton and Mariah Mink, Caribou.
Tumbling — Amy Gerritsen and Grass, both of CAJHS.
Stunts —Grass, Megan Brewer, Jannelle Tweedie, Jenna Rusby and Allyssa Tilley of CAJHS.
Best Team Jumps, Motions, Tumbling and Stunts — CAJHS.
Members of the Caribou Middle School squad, coached by Tracy Corbin, include Crissy Corbin, Danielle Daponte, Molly McCrossin, Mariah Mink, Katie Tardif, Kearstin Coty, Heather DeMerchant, Chelsea Levesque, Hannah Tarbox, Joeline Damboise, Erin Jandreau, Marisa Michaud, Destiny Soucie, Macy Wakem, Danielle Cyr, Victoria Leavitt, Trinity Pellicer and Anna Thibodeau. The managers are Madison Hewitt and Morgan Hewitt.
