Dr. Abhijay Karandikar, MD, MPH, medical director for Pines Company MD at Pines Health Services and a certified medical review officer, was recently elected to the board of directors of the New England College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (NECOEM).
Dr. Karandikar will also be inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ACOEM), in 2015.
NECOEM is a not-for-profit, regional component society of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, the pre-eminent organization of occupational and environmental physicians in the United States. The organization has over 250 physician members and is dedicated to preventing and treating occupational injuries and illnesses. NECOEM provides continuing medical education for its physician members in order to enhance the care that they provide to men and women in the workplace. NECOEM is an advocate for workplace safety, occupational health research, raising public awareness of occupational and environmental health issues, guiding public policy, and recognizing outstanding achievement by individuals in occupational and environmental health.
Dr. Karandikar also serves as NECOEM’s conference committee chairperson for the group’s 2015 annual conference in Newton, Mass.
Founded in 1916, ACOEM is the nation’s largest medical society dedicated to promoting the health of workers through preventive medicine, clinical care, research, and education.
Since 2009, Pines Company MD has been working with businesses large and small throughout Aroostook County, representing a variety of industries, from manufacturing and agriculture to transportation and health services. Located at the Pines Family Health Center in Presque Isle, the Occupational Medicine specialty practice collaborates with clients to review their trends, assess their worksites and customize programs to help them achieve their health and safety goals.
