The Christmas spirit is alive and well in Oakfield and the surrounding communities.
A series of three Christmas activities will be held for anyone looking to get involved in the holiday season. The activities begin Friday, Dec. 5, with an inaugural light parade in Oakfield starting at 5:30 p.m. at the Bethel Pentecostal Church parking lot and ending at Danny’s Thriftway.
Families, churches, individuals, businesses, non-profit organizations and anyone else interested are invited to join the parade and light up the night. For more information, contact Adam Anderson at 694-4508.
Following the light parade, there will be a Victorian Christmas program at the Smyrna Merrill Historical Society at 7 p.m. featuring holiday entertainment, as well as gingerbread cookies and eggnog. For more information, call Alberta McDonald at 757-8052.
Finally, on Saturday, Dec. 6, the annual Christmas in The Park at Merrill Millstream Park takes place. Santa Claus is scheduled to be present at 10 a.m. to hear all the children’s wishes. His elves will be handing out presents for all the children.
A bonfire and lots of hot chocolate and cookies will be available. There is no fee and everyone is invited to join in the holiday celebration. The Mike and Heidi Memorial Fund is the source of funding for the treat bags handed out to all the kids.
This year, families are being encouraged to decorate a tree at Merrill Millstream Park. The goal is to get all the trees decorated. Families adopting a tree will need to bring their own lights and decorations. Anyone wanting more information can contact Ken Bustard (MMP Committee Chair) at 659-2018.
