This year’s “Butch” Shaw Award recipients were announced recently by the Northern Maine Board of Approved Soccer Officials.

The winners were: Class B boys, Ben Nickerson, Presque Isle; Class C boys, Christo Naranja, Fort Kent; Class D boys, Cody Blair, Ashland; and Johnnny Theriault, Fort Fairfield.
Also, Class B girls, Sarah Doak, Caribou; Class C girls, Emily Mooers, Houlton; and Danielle Pelletier, Fort Kent; Class D girls, Marissa Chasse, Ashland; Kylee Carter, Easton; and Mackenzie Worcester, Washburn.
The award is presented annually to an Aroostook County soccer player in Class B, C and D who is an outstanding player and also exemplifies the characteristics of respect and sportsmanship.
The award is named for Clyde “Butch” Shaw, who was a well-respected varsity basketball and baseball coach at Presque Isle High School and a long-time soccer official.
He passed away in October 1985 after a short, courageous battle with leukemia.
