PET BULLETIN
‘Mews and Yips’ from the Central Aroostook Humane Society

Have you adopted a pet from the Central Aroostook Humane Society? Whether it was last week, last year or 10 years ago, we want to hear from you!

One of the exciting parts of our up-and-coming fundraiser, Toast for the Animals, is showcasing our “happy endings” stories. This fun event will be held at the Northeastland Hotel on Friday, Nov. 21, from 6-9 p.m. During our event we run a continuous slide show of many of the lucky pets and happy owners that we have had the pleasure of knowing over the years. We would love to hear from you! All you need to do is send your names and photos to cahs.success.stories@gmail.com and we will include them in our slide show.
Our volunteers have been busy promoting this wonderful fundraiser. We have once again witnessed the generosity of businesses and individuals who have either become sponsors or donated amazing silent auction items. We are so grateful for the support that we have received.

Fire alarm system needed

Part of the proceeds from the Toast for the Animals will go to install a much-needed fire alarm system in our shelter.  An early-morning fire back in March destroyed the Ark Animal Sanctuary building in Houlton, and 16 cats housed in the shelter perished in the blaze. That was a huge wakeup call for the Central Aroostook Humane Society. We knew that we needed to be pro-active. We also knew that in the event of a fire, we were not prepared and the hope of saving any of the over 100 animals at the shelter would be almost impossible.
Although, having a sprinkler system would be the best option, it was also way beyond what we could afford. The fire alarm system will be the next best thing and will alert the fire department and authorities in the event of any indication of heat or smoke!
With the help of a recent Presque Isle Rotary grant, our hope is that we will raise enough funds to pay for the $5,300 system. This fundraiser has grown over the past four years and this year we are hoping for a great turnout for our Wine & Beer Tasting event. We will have well over 80 silent auction items, food, music, 50/50 raffle and door prizes. Tickets are $15 at the door, or you can purchase one at our shelter. You may also call 551-6966 to have one mailed to you.
We are still looking for sponsors for the event. For a $100 sponsorship donation, you will receive two tickets to the event (a $30 value), recognition at the event and recognition on the CAHS Facebook page, and the knowledge that you have played an important role in helping to shelter and protect animals in need in Aroostook County.
If you are interested in being a sponsor, call 227-1719 or send an email to csmith.esquire@gmail.com. Sponsorship donation checks can be made payable to “CAHS” and mailed to 302 Center Rd., Easton, ME 04740.

Protect pets from winter weather

With the temperatures dropping and the cold weather upon us, please be mindful that your pets need to be protected from the elements. Always provide a warm, dry shelter and fresh water if your pets are outside. The best option, of course, is to have them safe inside, where it is warm and dry, and hopefully a loved one to curl up next to!
Please be responsible pet owners, spay and neuter your pets!
