GREENSBORO, NC & MAINE – Richard Beem, 76, passed away on September 20, 2014, at the Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, in Landrum, SC, after a brief illness. Richard was born September 17, 1938, in Bridgewater, ME, to Doris (Jamison) and Charles “Buster” Beem.
He grew up in Robinson, ME. The family later moved to Mars Hill where he graduated from Aroostook Central Institute in 1956. He loved sports and was a member of the All Aroostook Basketball Team. He attended Maine Maritime Academy in Castine, ME. Richard loved to fish and hunt, passions he shared with his father.
He retired to New Hampshire after working several years at Blue Cross Blue Shield in Portland, ME. He moved to North Carolina with his daughter, Jodie and her family a few years ago.
He was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Doris Beem; and his wife, Maxine Cross Beem. He is survived by his daughters, Barbara Beem Miller of Portsmouth, NH, Jodie Beem Belliveau of High Point, NC; four grandchildren: Anne Tiernen Moronta of New Orleans, Mass., Emily Tiernen of New York City, Michael Belliveau and Christy Belliveau of Sanford, NC; two great-granddaughters; his brother and sister-in-law, Brian and Beverly Beem of Taylors, SC.
A graveside service was held at 1 p.m. Friday, September 26, 2014, at the Estes Cemetery in Easton, ME. Funeral Arrangements are by Faye Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Presque Isle.
