Monticello home flattened by fire

MONTICELLO, Maine — A Monticello man has his dog to thank for saving his life following an early morning fire Friday on the Curtis Road.
According to the Monticello Fire Department, a house fire broke out when the homeowner started cooking, but left the food unattended and fell asleep. Bacon grease ignited on the stove catching the kitchen on fire.

The owner was saved by his dog who kept jumping on him and barking. Both escaped the residence and retreated to a nearby residence to call for help. Due to the remote location of the log home and time it took for call to come in, the residence was a total loss. The owner advised it was insured.
Attempts to contact Monticello Fire Chief Morris Pinette for additional information on the fire and the identity of the homeowner were not successful by presstime.
