Caribou Heritage Day was a huge success. I hope many of you got to see the fireworks and attend an event or two during the day. There certainly were a lot of them! The weather was spectacular. We gave Austin Bleess credit for the weather.
Actually most of the credit has to go to Gary Marquis and his staff at the Parks & Recreation Department. He and they were tireless leading up to the event and through the entire day. The Police Department did much to keep the events safe and on track and Scott and the Fire and Ambulance Department helped bring about the best fireworks event in The County this year!
Much thanks goes to the owners of the antique cars and tractors that made that event so successful. Thanks also to the two musical acts that entertained us during the day and the vendors that came out and the Caribou Athletic Boosters who provided a really nice array of eats and drinks Saturday evening.
A big thank you goes to the descendants of Alexander Cochran who came to the sign ceremony on Water Street and said many nice things about Caribou honoring their ancestor. Please take a drive down Water Street to see the sign!
There are two events on the calendar for October. On Saturday, Oct. 18, the Chamber will host its second Candidates Forum at the city office so that voters can get a better idea of who is running and what is important to those candidates. There will be more details in next week’s paper. The second is the big Fall Arts & Crafts Fair, Aroostook County’s oldest and best show of its kind on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 25 and 26. More to come on that event next week.
The Caribou Area Chamber of Commerce is proud and pleased to announce that Channel X Radio has joined as a member of the Chamber. The only radio network covering all of Aroostook County and western New Brunswick! We are proud they have chosen to join. They have been very good to us in promoting what we do and what our goals are as a Chamber.
Much thanks goes to our board of directors and some very special high school students for helping clean out our storage shed unit up at Salar Storage North. When the Chamber moved from Sweden Street to its current location at the Nylander Museum, a lot of “stuff” got dumped in a storage unit and it was a mess and a disaster. Everyone rolled up their sleeves this past week and we tackled that thing and you can actually walk around in there now! Thank you!
