Boston-bound on a fall excursion — The B & A railroad is advertising their annual fall excursion to Boston for Oct. 8-10th with a low priced fare of $11.00 for the round trip. In all probability, a large number will go from Houlton and if the Boston Braves land the pennant, a delegation of ball fans are planning to attend.
Ward hired as bank cashier — The First National Bank, as well as the town of Houlton, is to be congratulated upon securing the services of Mr. R. F. Ward as cashier to succeed Mr. Fred D. Goud whose resignation takes effect Nov. 1st. Mr. Ward was the representative of the American Express Co. in Houlton for two years and made a host of friends among the many patrons of the office.

Houlton’s Dow trains with Air Corps — James F. Dow, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Dow of Green street, Houlton, went from Parks Air College, Sept. 22, to Randolph Field, Texas, the training center of the new United States Army Air Corps to enter the second phase of his training as a Flying Cadet. As far as is known, he is the only Houlton man to enter training for the U.S. Air Corps.
Blaine Grange hosts fair — Under the direction of the Home and Community Welfare Committee, the members of the Mountain Grange of Blaine are planning a fair for Saturday, Oct. 21. Included in this will be a street parade at one o’clock and a six o’clock supper with entertainment afternoon and evening.

Houlton’s barber held world shooting record — Lewis Weatherbee learned the trade of barbering as a youth, however, there was a period of 21 years in his life in which he left his trade and established national and world records in small-bore rifle shooting. While employed by the Winchester Co. in New Haven, Conn., he was a member of Winchester’s Red W shooters. In 1946, as part of the five-man North Haven Rifle Club, he and teammates shot a perfect 2,000 with 152Xs.

Wallace has been serving as a sergeant and is the first member of the department to hold the post of lieutenant in more than 10 years. Socoby is the department’s only sergeant.
Dealers preview 1965 automobiles — Houlton’s automobile dealers will unveil their new 1965 models this weekend in a rather extraordinary event with the cars being shown for the first time at virtually all of the dealers on the same weekend. Among those featured are: the Plymouth Fury, Oldsmobile’s Delta 88, the Mercury Comet, Buick Skylark, Rambler Ambassador, Ford Mustang and the Cadillac Fleetwood Sixty Special Sedan.

All-male review debated in Houlton — “California Heat,” an all-male performance group, is expected to take to the dance floor of the Silver Fox tomorrow night as advertised. The Houlton Town Council acknowledged the receipt of three petitions dealing with live entertainment and listened as a number of people in an overflow audience discussed the pros and cons of similar shows.
Island Falls hosts ‘Wheels for Life’ — Riders from Island Falls will be asking Southern Aroostook citizens to pledge a contribution for each mile they ride in the “Wheels for Life” Saturday to benefit St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Bikers can get registration forms from Donna Walker, Jim Flye and the Island Falls Quik Stop.
