MIDDLEBURY, CT & PRESQUE ISLE, ME – Dr. Louis Olore, 95, died peacefully at home in Middlebury on September 14, 2014, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Presque Isle, on November 17, 1918, to Hugo Olore and Dorothea (Marino) Olore, Dr. Olore attended local schools before enrolling at Tufts University in1936, where he earned his bachelor’s and medical degrees.   American Flag Color
Dr. Olore interned at St. Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury, CT, where he met his future wife, Margaret Bailey, a nurse. After he proposed while on call in an ambulance, they were married at Sacred Heart Church in Waterbury in 1945, the beginning of sixty-nine wonderful years together, blessed by a tender devotion to each other and their strong Catholic faith. Shortly thereafter, commissioned as a captain in the U.S. Army Air Force Medical Corps, Dr. Olore was garrisoned at a military hospital in Miami, FL, where he and Margaret had the first two of what would eventually be nine children. Returning to Waterbury in 1947, Dr. Olore began a 45-year career in family medicine, holding long office hours with no appointments necessary and frequently going on house calls. He was well known for his gentle manner and for his remarkable memory and diagnostic skills. For three years, he was Chief of Staff at St. Mary’s Hospital and was a former member of the American Academy of General Practice and fellow of the American Academy of Family Practice.
An avid golfer, Dr. Olore was a longtime member of the Waterbury Country Club playing well into his 90s. He was an unabashed, diehard Boston Red Sox fan (proud to have been born the same year as Ted Williams), often taking his family of eleven to double headers at Fenway Park. An instinctual, natural chef, he took great joy in recreating the recipes of his Italian parents for his beloved family that meant everything to him.
He and Margaret loved to travel, especially to Italy, and for many years, enjoyed winters in Port St. Lucie, FL.
Besides his wife, Margaret, Dr. Olore leaves his brother, Hugo Olore, of Presque Isle, ME; his nine children: Donna Militello of Miami, FL, and her husband, Richard, Doreen Kelly of Norfolk, CT, and her husband, Michael, Margaret Shepard of Margate, FL, Paul Olore of Southington, CT, and his wife, Jane, Louis Olore, Jr. of Southington, CT, and his wife, Joyce, Kathryn Goumas of Goshen, NY, and her husband, William, Jeanne Moye of Fairfield, CT, and her husband, James, Monica Anderson of Glastonbury, CT, and her husband, Everett, Stephen Olore of Scarborough, ME, and his wife, Laura; twenty-five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
