Eldora was born on September 8, 1924, in Houlton; she was the cherished daughter of the late William A. and Dorris (Grant) Hovey. As a young girl, Eldora moved from Maine with her family and settled in Wilmington. She was educated in Wilmington and graduated from Wilmington High School.
Eldora worked as an assembler for Raytheon in Waltham for many years. She was a dedicated worker, who made many friends at her job. Eldora met her husband, the late William A. True, while working at Raytheon. Eldora and Bill married in 1966 and spent many wonderful years together before his passing in 2008.
Eldora decided at the age of 40 that she wanted to become a nurse. She attended nursing school at the Tewksbury State Hospital and graduated with her nursing certificate.
Eldora’s life was centered on her family – especially her only child, Tom. She was the matriarch of her family, the glue that kept everyone together. Eldora was always very proud of her family and loved to share stories of their accomplishments. Eldora was happiest when spending time with her son, her grandchildren, or with her niece whenever she had the chance. She loved to host family gatherings and holidays; she had a beautiful home and was quite the homemaker, who made anyone visiting feel welcome.
Eldora was an AVID Red Sox fan. She was the type of fan who loved to watch the Red Sox play whether they were winning or not; she just was happiest while watching a game. Eldora also loved to do crosswords and was an exceptional scrabble player. She could beat anyone who was brave enough to challenge her.
Eldora will be remembered as a great mother; she was a mother figure to anyone who needed her. She was loyal, loving and very accepting of everyone. Eldora was a great friend to many and will be truly missed by those who knew and loved her.
