LITTLETON, Maine — Sheriff’s Deputies have charged a 28-year-old Merrill woman with leaving the scene of an accident after she allegedly rolled her car over in Littleton.
Paula Gardiner was charged with leaving the scene of an accident after police found her 2003 Mitsubishi Galant abandoned, on its roof, in a ditch in Littleton. Deputies were called to the crash shortly after 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. A passerby noticed the Gardiner vehicle on its roof in the ditch beside the Foster Road in Littleton and called 911.

Deputies arrived a short time later and found no one in or around the vehicle, which had sustained significant damage. More than an hour later, deputies located Gardiner, who admitted driving the vehicle. Cassidy Lefay, 18, of Crystal, was also reportedly in the vehicle at the time of the crash. Both women had minor scratches and reported they were wearing their seatbelts.
The crash happened on a stretch of the Foster Road shortly after the road surface turns from asphalt to gravel. The cause remains under investigation, but speed is believed to be a factor. The vehicle is a total loss. Gardiner was issued a summons for the offense.
