MARS HILL, Maine — Residents and staff at TAMC’s Aroostook Health Center are inviting family members, friends and community members to join them Thursday, Aug. 7 from 6-8 p.m. for a 1950’s-themed ice cream social and sock hop. The free community event is the kickoff for the annual Mars Hill Homecoming Celebration, which continues through the weekend.
“We’re inviting the community to dig out their poodle skirts, dust off the leather jackets, shine up the saddle shoes and come join us as we host a celebration rock and roll style,” said Kelly Lundeen, AHC administrator. “Our residents and staff are looking forward to having the community join us as we roll back the clock to the days many of our residents remember fondly.”
The ice cream social and sock hop will be held in the parking lot in front of the rehabilitation and long-term care facility located at 15 Highland Avenue in Mars Hill. In addition to ice cream sundaes served by AHC staff, community members will enjoy 1950s and ’60s-era music played by the Wendell Hudson Band.
Other activities planned include a ’50s costume and hula hoop contests, a visit by the WOW (Wintergreen on Wheels)/TAMC in Your Town Mobile truck — complete with face painting for children, and a bouncy house on-location from The Jump for kids to enjoy while the adults visit and enjoy the music.
