WASHBURN, Maine — An early-morning fire Sunday destroyed a home on Storey Street.
“Washburn Fire and Rescue responded to a call at 20 Storey St. in the early morning hours of Sunday, July 27. Crews arrived to find a vacant property in flames and proceeded to extinguish the flames,” said Troy Heald, chaplain and public relations officer for the department.
Heald said the fire was reported by a neighbor.
“The fire was called in by neighbors who spotted flames coming from the structure,” he said.
According to town tax records, the property is owned by Mireille Rossignol.
Two other fire departments responded to assist.
“Fire Chief Nate Allen advised that mutual aid for the fire was received from the Caribou and Mapleton, Castle Hill and Chapman fire departments,” said Heald.
Heald said the cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
“The cause is undetermined at this time and the case has been turned over to the State Fire Marshal’s Office,” said Heald.
