CARIBOU — Four were injured on Monday night after a car went off the Grimes Mill Road in Caribou.
Caribou Police responded to multiple 9-1-1 calls on July 21 around 7:30 p.m. alerting them to a motor vehicle accident near the Grimes Road intersection on Route 89; department officials said that upon arrival, officers found a silver 2002 Buick LeSabre that had been driven by Joseph Poisson, 30, of Limestone, which appeared to be traveling east on Route 89 and went off the roadway at a high rate of speed just prior to the intersection of Grimes Road.
Officials with Caribou PD said that the vehicle appeared to leave the roadway and went down into the ditch, going airborne at several locations until coming to rest in a wooded area in the ditch on the other side of the Grimes Road.
There were five other individuals in the vehicle, including three children. All three adults sustained multiple injuries and were transported to Cary Medical Center by Caribou Fire and Ambulance Department. One child sustained minor injuries.
All three adults were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident; at time of print, the extent of all injuries was unknown.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation, and the Caribou Police Department is being assisted by the Maine Warden Service.
