Aroostook Chapter of Credit Unions raises funds for charities

The Aroostook Chapter of Credit Unions recently held an ATV run in St. Agatha to raise money for Ending Hunger in Maine, Special Olympics and CULAC (Credit Union Legislative Action Council). In conjunction with the snowmobile run held in February, the chapter raised over $4,000 to split among the three charities. Donations came from many generous sponsors and rider registrations.

The event was a 68-mile loop starting at Lakeview Restaurant in St. Agatha and took the group through the backcountry and woods with stops along the way in Fort Kent, Soldier Pond and back to St. Agatha. With great trail conditions, beautiful weather and breathtaking scenery, a great time was had by all who attended.
The Aroostook County Chapter of Credit Unions was formed in 1987 by several local credit unions to achieve a common goal of informing people about the benefits of being a member of a credit union, as well as meeting the needs of local communities they serve. The chapter has been very successful in reaching their goal by raising money for charity and rallying against legislation that undermines credit unions’ ability to serve members.
The number of credit unions in the chapter may have diminished over the years due to mergers, but credit unions in general have been thriving, thanks in great part to their members and the efforts by local chapters, like the Aroostook Chapter of Credit Unions, spreading the word about the credit union movement. The area credit unions that comprise the chapter are Acadia FCU, NorState FCU and The County FCU, which have all been very active participants.
