Earlier this week, Senate President Alfond selected Senate Majority Leader Troy Jackson of Allagash to serve on the Government Oversight Committee. The committee is responsible for reviewing government programs to ensure they function as efficiently, effectively and ethically as possible.
“It will be a pleasure for me to join the Government Oversight Committee,” said Jackson. “The Committee needs to work as a team to assure that our government is transparent and doing the work the people of Maine expect.”
Sen. Jackson is replacing Sen. Chris Johnson of Somerville, who previously served as a member of the committee and will now be serving as the Senate Chair. Sen. Johnson was appointed Senate Chair of the committee after Sen. Emily Cain of Orono, stepped down from her legislative committee assignments on Friday, June 20.
The Government Oversight Committee is scheduled to meet again on June 26, at 9 a.m. They will be discussing recommendations related to the investigation of document shredding at the Maine Center for Disease Control, and will receive an update on the LePage Administration’s response to the federal investigation into allegations that Gov. LePage improperly influenced Department of Labor hearing officers.
