McCartney received the service award for his many contributions to the club and community. McCartney is a busy member of the University of Maine at Presque Isle faculty, the founder and director of the Northern Maine Museum of Science, the creator of the Maine Solar System Model, co-founder of Planet Head Day, and has been highly involved in the Northern Maine Agricultural Fair, including serving as the president of the board for two years.

He also helped to establish the Art Auction that is done in conjunction with the Rotary Club’s annual radio/TV auction each fall.
