Third annual football clinic a big hit

Several dozen young football prospects from grades 2 through 8 enjoyed a Saturday morning at Southside’s Lowery Field honing their skills for the upcoming football season. The clinic was sponsored by the Houlton Football Association. The clinic was put on by the varsity staff, who recruited Shire High School team members to demonstrate and teach fundamentals to the group.
Shire players Tony Bonilla, Ryan Heath, Josh Upton, Danielle Provost, Dan McNally and Damon Reynolds provided the instruction while overseen by varsity line coach Vernon Upton.
“This was one of the larger turnouts that we have seen.” said Shire Head Coach Brian Reynolds, adding, “Many of the kids wanted to know if the next clinic would be soon. That is gratifying. We hope this reflects the growing enthusiasm in the Houlton area for the future.”
Many parents looked on approvingly as the players went through their ‘station’ work and concluded the two and on half hour session with a flag football game.
