PRESQUE ISLE & LIMESTONE – Zeta M. Lello, 94, wife of the late Howard L. Lello, passed away Wednesday afternoon, June 11, 2014, at a Mars Hill healthcare facility following an extended illness. She was born March 5, 1920 in Fort Fairfield, the daughter of Horace J. and Elizabeth M. (Sweeney) Donnelly.
She was a graduate of the Fort Fairfield High School Class of 1938, and furthered her education at Hartford Business College. She also attended and completed many courses for the American Institute of Banking and had been employed as manager of the Limestone Northern National Bank, currently Katahdin Trust Company, retiring after thirty-four years of dedicated service. Zeta had been a member of the St. Louis Catholic Church Council Hospitality Committee and a volunteer driver for Meals on Wheels. She was also a charter member and former treasurer of the Fort Fairfield Alumni Association, a member and former treasurer of the Limestone Caswell Dollars for Scholars Association, treasurer of the former Limestone-Loring Defense Department, and a charter member of the Limestone-Caswell United Way. In 1968, Zeta was honored by having the annual Limestone High School Yearbook dedicated to her.
Zeta was married to Howard L. Lello on December 5, 1940, and had been a resident of Limestone from 1952 to 2009, and had resided in Presque Isle since 2009. She was a communicant of the Parish of the Precious Blood, attending both the St. Denis Catholic Church, Fort Fairfield and the St. Louis Catholic Church, Limestone. Zeta and Howard enjoyed all sports and faithfully attended the basketball tournament in Bangor from 1946 to 2003. They also looked forward to spending time at their Cross Lake Camp every year from May through November.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Lello was predeceased by her husband Howard on April 2, 2012, with whom she shared seventy-one happily married years. She was also predeceased by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Lorraine and Wendell Doughty, and Patricia Ann and Jerry Legare; and brother-in-law, Donald Banks. She is survived by two sisters and a brother-in-law, Naomi and Jack Downing of Presque Isle, and Joyce Marie Banks of South Windsor, CT. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who were special to her, especially Paul Doughty of Fort Fairfield, and Jane Pryor and her husband, Wayne, of Presque Isle. Zeta also is survived by many special friends whose friendship she treasured, too numerous to mention.
Friends called Friday, June 13, 2014 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Saturday, June 14, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the Parish of the Precious Blood, St. Denis Catholic Church, 147 Main Street, Fort Fairfield with the Father Raymond Morency celebrant. Interment followed at Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments was held following the interment at the Knights of Columbus Council Hall Number 1753, 260 Main Street, Fort Fairfield.
