100 Years Ago-June 18, 1914

News from Stockholm — Mrs. Milton Tompkins of Jemtland will teach dancing lessons every Tuesday at Rugan’s boarding house. Ernest Thibodeau, one of the Stockholm Lumber Co.’s clerks, has purchased a new Ford car. A quiet wedding took place at the parsonage Monday morning when Miss Mable Sodergren and M. John Rowmburg were united in marriage by Pastor Wahlburg.
Bangor Daily News: Three months for $1 — In its advertisement, the Bangor Daily News is making a special offer to new subscribers, first three months for $1. After the first three months, the paper is sold for 50 cents a month.

75 Years Ago-June 22, 1939

A lively contest — The Caribou Clovers will cross bats here at the park Sunday with the strong Presque Isle Indians. With the speed balls from Jimmy Higgins and Cecil Hardacker available to puzzle the Presque Isle sluggers, a lively contest should be in the offering.
Circus comes to Caribou — Eddy Bros. Three-Ring Circus will show in Caribou on Friday, June 30. Of course there are elephants, lions, bears, dogs, horses, ponies, etc. and the air and ground is a profusion of aerialists, pretty girls, gymnasts, clowns and freaks. The entire circus will make you thrill to see it.

50 Years Ago-June 18, 1964

Caribou’s horse & pony show — The Pine & Spurs Club of Aroostook will be sponsoring the Caribou Horse & Pony Show on Saturday, June 20 on the Access Highway, two miles from Caribou from 9 a.m. – noon featuring in hand and equitation classes: Arabian costume, games, jumping, harness pony, parade class, Western and English classes and barrel racing. Admission is 50 cents for adults and 35 cents for children.
Hutcheon artwork featured by BPW — By invitation of the Business and Professional Women’s Clubs of Maine, a one man show of creative art by professional artist Wilda Hutcheon, Caribou, will be held in conjunction with the state BPW convention in Presque Isle. Proficient in the fields of both art and pictorial photography, Mrs. Hutcheon will exhibit many of her works that have been accepted for hanging in Maine, New England and Canada.

WCXU receives high ratings — Caribou’s only FM radio station (WCXU which began operations Nov. 15, 1986) has been rated by Arbitron as having the highest average quarter-hour share and the highest average quarter-hour rating of any station in Aroostook County. WCXU is the flagship station of the Channel ‘X’ Radio Network.
New turkey harvest record — Maine turkey hunters finished the three-week spring hunting season with another record harvest. Regional Wildlife Biologist Philip Bozenhard, who coordinated the annual turkey hunt and directed the program to reintroduce wild turkeys to Maine, reports 19 male turkeys were registered during the open season.
