Palmer, Kirk, 83, May 28, 2014. A service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, August 4, 2014, at the new Maine Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Augusta.
MANCHESTER — Kirk Palmer waved good bye as he sailed off into the sunset on May 28, 2014. He left behind his wife, Margaret, of 62 years; five sons and three daughters-in-law, Dave and Marilyn, Steve and Cindy, Chris and Kilene, and sons Kelly and Kip; seven grandchildren and a soon-to-be great-grandson, Kristin and Andy King, Corey and Lex Palmer, Than and Monica Palmer, Sarah, Joel, Julie and Danielle Palmer.
Kirk was born in Houlton on Jan. 11, 1931, and grew up in Island Falls where he lived, except for two years in the Army, until 1967 when he moved his family to the Manchester area where he made his living as an appraiser of commercial real estate. He is survived by two older brothers and their wives, Rod and Janice, of Houlton, and Mac and Priscilla, of Island Falls.
His love of sailing took him and his wife to many different places, Penobscot Bay off the coast of Maine, the American and British Virgin Islands in the Caribbean, Passama-quoddy Bay off Campo-bello Island, Canada, but, mostly to his beloved Bahamian Islands where they lived aboard their sailboat during the winter months fishing, swimming, snorkeling, and exploring the islands for more than 10 years.
Kirk and Margaret live on Cobbosseecontee Lake and were lifetime members of the sailing fleet. They enjoyed competitive as well as recreational sailing.
