PRESQUE ISLE — The Wintergreen Arts Center will feature local children’s artwork, as well as entertainment by folk musician Jacob Augustine on June 6, as part of the First Friday Art Walk.

“Wintergreen Arts Center is honored to announce that we will be showcasing artwork from our very own students on June 6, beginning at 6 p.m. Select pieces have been chosen from our MMG-sponsored after-school arts program to be displayed. Our students are very proud of their work and would love to see you out to enjoy an impressive exhibit of their talent,” said Rowena Forbes, the center’s executive director.
Forbes said Augustine will be performing from 7-9 p.m., “so bring your tip money.”
“Jacob is an experimental folk musician from the northern woods of Maine. While living in California in 2008, he recorded his first full-length solo album, ‘Harmonia,’ which was released in early 2009, upon his moving back to Maine,” she said.
The album was named Top 10 Album of the Year by The Portland Phoenix and the single, “High Water,” received airplay on radio stations across the country, said Forbes.
“Since then Jacob has released four albums in two years, including three simultaneously in late 2011, with the latest being the ‘Bikini Island’ EP in July 2012,” she said.
“The Portland Press Herald stated ‘Bikini Island’ is an affecting, arresting release — one of those rare pieces of musical art that stays with you long after the last not has faced and your speakers have grown silent,” noted Forbes.
Forbes said this is a night not to be missed.
“Wonderful art displays, great music, light refreshments and good company all around — who could ask for more on a beautiful June evening?” said Forbes. “We hope to see you all out.”
“Wintergreen exists for you and because of you. We will be accepting donations to support bringing more artists and musicians to WGAC. We can’t do it without you; we thank you for your support,” said Forbes.
