Easton High School announces 2014 honor parts

    The principal of Easton Junior/Senior High School, Cameron Adams, has announced the honor parts for the graduation ceremonies of the Class of 2014. The graduation ceremony will be held on Friday, June 6, at 6 p.m. in the high school gym.

Valedictorian

Joshuah Salkind

    He is the son of David and Sharon Salkind. Josh has been a member of the National Honor Society for two years and has served as the Maine NHS president. Josh has been a member of the French Club for three years, serving a term as vice president and a member of the Key Club for three years.  He has participated in student government, serving as class treasurer for four years. He was the first-place speaker at Junior Exhibition and a Student of the Month. He has been involved in Math Team, Wind Blade Challenge, and the Eastonia yearbook staff. Josh was also a member of the Varsity Soccer Team. Josh will study finance at the University of Maine.

Salutatorian

Hunter Turner

    He is the son of Hugh Turner and Lynda Foren-Turner. Hunter has been a member of the National Honor Society for two years. Hunter has been a member of the Key Club, serving as the vice president. He has participated in the Student Council, serving as president. He also served a term as the freshman class president.  He has been a member of the Varsity Club for four years as well as the band. He also participated in the senior play. Hunter has been an active member of the Math Team, placing second as an All-County junior. Hunter participated in the Maine Wind Blade challenge, placing second, and he was a member of the Eastonia yearbook staff. Hunter’s academic awards also include the Phi Beta Kappa Award, and the Maine Principal’s Award. He has been a member of the basketball, soccer, and volleyball teams, and has served as captain for all three sports’ teams. His athletic awards include All-Aroostook Soccer Team, All-East Soccer Team, Senior Bowl, WHOU Basketball Player of the Game and All County Team, County Player of the Game and Tourney Honorable Mention, McDonald’s All-Star Team, and Aroostook League Volleyball Tournament MPV. Hunter will study mechanical engineering at the University of Maine.

1st Honor Essayist

Haley Ambrose

    She is the daughter of Lee and Wendy Ambrose. Haley has been a member of the National Honor Society, serving as vice president, and was a three-year member Student Council, where she served as secretary. She has served her class as secretary and president. Haley has been a member of the Varsity Club for four years, Key Club for three years and the Eastonia yearbook staff. She has also been a member of the Math Team, Envirothon, a speaker at Junior Exhibition, and a cheerleader for two years. Haley was a member of the JV Basketball Team, serving as captain, Varsity Basketball Team, and Varsity Soccer Team. Haley’s athletic awards include the All-Aroostook Soccer Team and All-East Soccer Team.  Haley participated in chorus, one-act play and the senior play. Haley will study art history at the University of Southern Maine.

2nd Honor Essayist

Cassandra Buck

       She is the daughter of Andrew and Angela Buck. Cassandra has been a member of the National Honor Society and has served as the chapter president. Cassandra has been a member of the Varsity Club for four years, serving as the media coordinator this year. She has participated in the Student Council for two years. She placed third as a speaker at Junior Exhibition and has been a member of the casts for one-act play and the senior play. She has been involved in Math Team, and the Eastonia yearbook staff, serving as editor. Cassandra has been a proud member of the band for four years and the jazz choir for three years. Cassandra’s academic awards include high honors for four years. Cassandra has been a member of the Varsity Basketball, Soccer, and Volleyball teams for all four years.
She has been a captain of the basketball and soccer teams. Cassandra’s athletic awards include All-Aroostook Soccer Team, and WHOU’S Basketball Player of the Game. Casandra will study athletic training at the University of Maine at Presque Isle.

Student of the Quarter

    Easton Elementary School’s Student of the Quarter for the third quarter is Lydia Ferris, a 6th grader. She is the daughter of Dan and Leslie Ferris. Lydia is a hardworking and kind student who always gives 100 percent. She is a wonderful citizen and sets a great example for her peers. Lydia is a good friend and is always respectful to those around her. She will be treated to a lunch at Subway with the principal, Mrs. Malenfant, compliments of Subway restaurant in Presque Isle. Congratulations, Lydia!

Easton alumni news

    The annual Easton High School Alumni Banquet will be held on June 5 at 6 p.m. in the elementary school cafeteria. All alumni are invited to attend. Menu consists of: teriyaki or barbecue chicken, mixed vegetables, mashed potatoes, salads and desserts. All alumni are asked to bring either a salad or dessert to share. Alumni dues for 2013/14 school year are $10.

Osgood recognized

    Michelle Osgood of Easton was awarded a Student of the Year Award from Lincoln Memorial University-DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine (LMU-DCOM) at its recent Spring Gala in Knoxville, Tenn. Osgood was selected as the female Student of the Year by the members of the Class of 2017. Osgood received her undergraduate degree in biology and chemistry from Husson University.

Happy Days’ bus trip

    The Easton Senior Happy Days Club traveled by bus to visit Brookside Restaurant in Smyrna on Thursday, May 22. They enjoyed the ride and had a delicious dinner and shopping in Houlton. Along on the ride were:  Loomis and Kitty Scott, Eleanor Kennison, Paula Harris, Annette Copeland, Ed and Alta Rattray, Diane Hersey, Elizabeth Martin, Paul and Liana DeMerchant, Marie Hewitt, Arlene Ladner, Betty Brown, Hughie Gray, Marge Leach, Margaret Adams, Carol Adams, John and Nina Trask and driver Dellas Adams. Thanks to the town of Easton for making this trip possible.
The next meeting will be a potluck dinner on Thursday, June 12. All Easton seniors are invited to attend the meetings and bring a friend.

    Wednesday, June 4 — Junior activities at the Hall from 9:30-11a.m.
Final Kindergarten swim at Gentile Hall. The bus departs at 1 p.m. and the kids will ride the after-school bus home.
Major League practice at 5:30 p.m. on the field near the tennis courts.
Thursday, June 5 — Summer registration from 8-10 a.m. at the Town Office.
Adult trip to Monticello; bus departs from the Manor at 10 a.m. Lunch will be provided.
Hershey practice after-school from 2:45-4 p.m. at the elementary school.
Minor League practice at 5:30 p.m. on the field near the tennis courts.
Friday, May 6 — Final day to register for summer recreation activities without a late fee!
Junior activities from 9:30-11 a.m. at the Hall.
Monday, June 9 — Adult progressive lunch. Leaving from the Manor at 10:45 a.m. The cost is $3.

Father’s Day crafts after school at the Hall until 4:15 p.m.
