Three students at the Caribou Regional Technology Center have successfully passed two certification exams along with their Northern Maine Community College counterparts.
Matt Theriault, Caleb Hunter and David Hunter are dual-enrolled in the CRTC’s computer servicing program and in NMCC’s advanced computer electronics class and laboratory. They took their exams on May 1 along with the college students and passed both, which are required to earn their CompTIA A+ certification.
The A+ designation is the starting point for a career in information technology, and the exams covered maintenance of PCs, mobile devices, laptops, operating systems and printers. Part one concentrated on the fundamentals of computer technology, installation and configuration of PCs, laptops and related hardware, and basic networking. Part two focused on skills necessary to install and configure PC operating systems, as well as setting up common features for mobile operating systems.
When the trio complete the computer servicing program at the end of this school year, they will each earn six college credits from NMCC.
CRTC instructor Lisa Anderson was delighted with the students’ accomplishments. “Although we have offered dual enrollment at NMCC for the last few years, this is the first time students in the Caribou tech center’s computer servicing program have taken advantage of this opportunity to earn the A+ certification along with college credit,” she said.
“All three of these fine young men have worked very hard to prepare themselves for this challenge. It is a real privilege to work with students who are so capable and dedicated,” Anderson noted.
