Wellington School and the Parent-Teachers Club are sponsoring the New Hampshire Theatre Company, Children’s Stage Adventures this week. Co-executive directors, Rob and Lorrie Gray held auditions Monday for this year’s performance of “The Princess and the Pea.” This is the fourteenth season for Wellington’s participation in a dramatic presentation. Due to the closing of the Monticello elementary school in June this will be their final CSA-led production.

This popular fairy tale has been adapted into a musical presentation. As a prince comes of age, his doting parents tell him it is time to marry a princess. No princess can be found locally, so the prince goes on a quest to find her. Finding no suitable princess on his quest, the prince returns home. Then on a dark and stormy night, there is a knock at the door and a soaked stranger enters the castle and introduces herself as a princess. The queen does not believe her and puts her through a test to prove she is a true princess and worthy of the prince.
Silliness and song carries the story to a happy ending for all. Mariah Peterson will play the part of the princess and Cody Johnston will be the prince. They are both third-grade students. There will be more than 50 cast members, all Wellington students and including for the first time, pre-K students.
The Grays have been active in theatre for 30 years. They write their own productions and have professionally designed costumes and constructed original sets. As the demand for their company has increased, they have added additional teams of actors/educators. Stage Adventures work primarily in New England, but have also traveled to other parts of the United States, Canada and Australia.
Children’s Stage Adventures is a non-profit organization created for the sole purpose of enriching children’s lives through participation in a live theatre experience. CSA is partially funded by charitable donations and corporate funding. To learn more about supporting this organization please write or call: Rob Gray, 603-847-3428 or email: kidsstage@hotmail.com.
This year’s performance will be held at the Wellington gymnasium on Friday, May 16 at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $3 for adults, $2 for children and $10 for a family of four.
