HODGDON, Maine — Hodgdon High School welcomed seven new members to its National Honor Society May 6 with a special dinner and ceremony at the school.
“The National Honor Society is the nation’s premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students,” President Valerie Estabrook said as she welcomed those in the audience. “NHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in scholarship, leadership, service and character. These characteristics have been associated with the membership since its beginning in 1921.
“Chapter membership not only recognizes students for their accomplishments, but challenges them to develop further through active involvement in school activities and community service,” she continued. “Each year, following NHS national guidelines, Honor Society chapters through the country collectively dedicate endless hours to school and community service projects, as well as fundraisers for local, national and international charities. Instilling these values in life helps to lay the groundwork for a lifetime of service.”
