AR-Joseph-Rockwell VAN BUREN – Joseph “Joe” E. Rockwell, 53, died peacefully at his residence on May 7, 2014. Joe was born on May 16, 1960, in Caribou, the son of Warren and Josephine (Doody) Rockwell.
Joe was raised in Woodland and graduated from Caribou High School. Joe served in the United States Army and Maine National Guard. He was employed for many years by Maine Public Service where he rose to the position of Area Supervisor for Northern Maine.
As an avid sports fan, Joe enjoyed watching all sports. He was a proud fan of both the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. He was lucky enough to be able to see both of his favorite sports teams in action in the fall of 2013. This trip was made possible through the generosity of his coworkers at Maine Public Service. Joe truly appreciated the kindness and goodwill that was shown to him and his family. Additionally, Joe enjoyed cruising in his red XLR convertible in the spring and summer months.
Joe and his family were so appreciative of all the visits, cards of encouragement, and prayers they received through-out his courageous battle with cancer. Special thanks are extended to his hospice nurse, Pauline LeBrun, and Dr. Sood from Aroostook Cancer Care.
Joe was an optimist and spent his last year of life filled with hope. He always had a smile for everyone and never complained.
Joe was predeceased by his father, Warren Rockwell. In addition to his loving and caring wife, Robertine “Bobbie” Rockwell, Joe is survived by his mother, Josephine Rockwell of Woodland; a special aunt, Katherine Doody of Caribou; a special sister and brother-in-law, Cathy and Gerald St. Pierre of Van Buren; two brothers and spouses, Galen and Arlene Rockwell of Caribou, and Keith and Paula Rockwell of North Port, FL; two sisters and spouses, Barbara and Ronald Gallagher of Limestone, and Debra and Melvin Burnham of Skowhegan. Joe is also survived by three sons, Jason, Justin, and Joshua, as well as a stepson, Mitchell Cyr of San Diego, CA; and a daughter, Jordyn. Joe was also the proud grandfather of four.
There will be no funeral services. Interment will be in the Northern Maine Veteran’s Cemetery on Friday, May 16 at noon. In lieu of flowers, gifts in Joe’s memory can be made to Aroostook House of Comfort, P.O. Box 867, Presque Isle, ME 04769.
