NEW SWEDEN, Maine — The joint committee of school Union 122 held a special board meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 8 at the New Sweden Consolidated School to announce Union 122’s newly appointed Superintendent of Schools, Karla Michaud.
Michaud previously worked as the director of special services in the high school guidance department for the Eastern Aroostook Regional School Unit 39, in Caribou, while also overseeing the special education and section 504 for Limestone, Woodland and Stockholm. According to Michaud she is currently in the process of working with retiring RSU 39 Supt. Frank McElwain, and will be meeting with him on Tuesday, May 13 to continue discussions, and decide how to proceed from here.
“We’re about to meet with Superintendent McElwain to discuss the ongoing process, but I can say things are moving forward,” said Michaud.
There is no set timetable for Michaud’s inauguration, however, as acting Superintendent Roland Caron looks to step down, the process will likely not be prolonged.
Prior to her position as director of special services for RSU 39, Michaud was the high school Principal in Van Buren and also worked as the special education director for 20 years in Van Buren.
More details regarding the new Superintendent hiring will be sure to come within the next month, or so, as school board meetings all across the county gear up for a long summer — filled with preparation for the upcoming 2014-15 school year.
