SMYRNA – Vinal E. Friel, 85, died March 9, 2014, in Houlton. He was born Jan. 3, 1929, in Dyer Brook, the son of Guy and Vivian (Clark) Friel.
He was co-owner of Guy Friel and Sons Lumber Company, a member and past president of the New England Kiln Drying Association, member and past president of the Island Falls Lions Club and a member of the SACHS School Board and he enjoyed dancing.
He is survived by one daughter, Linda White and Randy Lee of Smyrna; two granddaughters, Jessica and Mark Roach of Bellerica, Mass., and Huhnna White and her friend, Patrick Hare, of Dallas, Ore.; a close friend, Brenda; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Lona (Howe) Friel; and brothers, Karl, Keith, and Frederick.
Friends may call 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. Wednesday, at Linda’s home, 3154 Route 2, Smyrna. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, at Smyrna Merrill Historical Museum, the old Methodist Church.
