NASHVILLE PLANTATION, Maine — What was believed to be one of the oldest homes in Nashville Plantation was destroyed by fire Feb. 19.    The fire at a Route 11 home was reported by a passerby around 9 a.m., with firefighters from the Ashland Fire Department responding to the call. Fire Chief Don Bouley and about 15 firefighters from several departments were on scene for several hours. A metal roof over the original roof made the fire difficult to fight.
The home at 873 Aroostook Road is owned by Mr. and Mrs. Perry Charette, who were not home at the time of the blaze. The home, reportedly one of the oldest in the area, was built by Charette’s grandparents.
A hardware and small engine store Mr. Charette operated next to the house was not damaged.
No injuries were reported as a result of the fire. The house, which was insured, is considered a total loss. The fire, which may have been electrical in nature, remains under investigation.
AFD received mutual aid from Portage, Masardis and Mapleton.
