PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Northern Maine Community College and Husson University have approved a memorandum of understanding that will facilitate the transfer of credits between the two educational institutions.
The agreement, which was signed last Thursday at NMCC, benefits students interested in pursuing a bachelor’s degree at Husson University on the NMCC campus or at other Husson locations.
The arrangement outlines admission and program requirements at Husson University for bachelor of science degrees in accounting, business administration, and business and professional studies. It also specifies which NMCC courses can be used to meet general elective and major requirements within each of the degree programs. Individual course equivalencies listed by program are included in the agreement to assist in the advising process.
“Husson University has enjoyed being co-located on NMCC’s campus since 2006. This new articulation agreement provides students who successfully complete approved coursework at NMCC in accounting, business administration or medical office administration with a better understanding of the transfer process,” said Marie Hansen, Husson University’s college of business dean.
“Providing students with a clear trajectory for education beyond the associate’s degree level is one of the benefits of our partnership with NMCC,” she said. “We hope every NMCC student will go on to further their education with a bachelor’s degree from Husson University after they complete their associate’s degree studies.”
Dottie Martin, NMCC academic dean, said the transfer agreement represents “a continuation of our partnership with Husson to provide increased educational opportunities for citizens of Aroostook County.”
“Today we are officially re-signing an updated agreement between the two colleges that allows for a much easier transfer of courses that students have taken here to Husson,” she said. “We feel confident our students receive a very firm foundation to continue their educational pursuits.”
