CARIBOU, Maine — “Preparing Today’s Learners for Tomorrow’s World” is now the current vision statement of the RSU 39, as approved by the school board during their Feb. 5 meeting.
The board also approved three new courses to be taught at CHS: Introduction to Theatre, Acting I and Acting II.
Superintendent Frank McElwain explained that the board has been looking for ways to bring theater back into the curriculum for years.
“We’re very pleased to have courses next fall back in that arena,” he said last week.
Teaching those courses is the school’s Spanish Teacher Pat Karpen, who was a professional actress in New York City before pursuing her career in education.
Karpen successfully directed the play “The Glass Menagerie” by Tennessee Williams at the school this fall.
During the board meeting, Superintendent McElwain also apprised the board of the search for a new superintendent, as McElwain will be retiring at the end of the school year, and he described the new in-house committees that will be orchestrating principal and teacher performance evaluations.
The board was slated to discuss the 2014-15 school calendar, but discussion was tabled until the meeting tonight, at 7 p.m., in the superintendents office.
