We are excited — 2014 has started out great! In the month of January we saw many dogs and cats find warm, loving homes to call their own!
Shelter Manager Betsy Hallett reported that 26 cats came into the shelter and 38 were adopted out. She has never seen that happen and couldn’t be happier that the possibility that so many cats are leaving the shelter already spayed or neutered could directly affect the number of strays. Of course, that could all change in the blink of an eye, but we are happy at least for this month! And the best news is that two cats — Smokey, who arrived back in March 2013, and Jerrie, who came to us in May — have both found new families to love! We are so thankful to those that have opened their homes and hearts to these deserving animals! The Central Aroostook Humane Society still have six cats who have been longtime residents at our shelter, some arriving as long ago as last summer.
Our good friends at Tractor Supply have offered to have us be a part of their Valentine’s Day special on Saturday, Feb. 15, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. We will have these six special kitties at Tractor Supply and we are going to waive the entire adoption fee. These cats are up to date on theirs shots and are all spayed and neutered! That is an awesome deal. We would love to see these six cats finally leave our shelter to have a warm lap to sit on and a family who will love and care for them. They all deserve that. So please plan on coming out to Tractor Supply on the Houlton Road to say hello and check out these beautiful cats.
We are currently having the shelter webpage revamped by Winona Christnot-Peters and new updates and information will be available soon. Our Facebook page has been very active with many folks sending updates on pets they have recently adopted. We love seeing all the photos of these happy endings. We thank you and hope you will continue sharing your stories.
As the cold weather continues, please be mindful that animals need to be inside and protected. Frostbite and hypothermia can happen very quickly. If you must have your pet outside for a period of time, be sure they have someplace out of the elements and the wind — preferably a warm, insulated doghouse with a thick layer of straw for bedding. Remember to always have fresh water at all times.
We hope to see you on Feb. 15. The Central Aroostook Humane Society is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. — closing noon to 12:30 p.m. We are continuing our $20 special on all cat adoptions for just a few more weeks. Remember that state law requires a $100 refundable deposit on all unaltered animals.
Please be responsible pet owners, spay and neuter your pets!
