EASTON NEWS
by Hillary Hallett
Katelyn White and Paige Flewelling were nominated by their Easton science teacher, Ellen Trask, and were accepted to participate in the 18th annual Girls’ Day at the State House. The girls will travel to the State House on Feb. 25 and learn firsthand how our state government works, the importance of women’s leadership and how young women can have a voice on issues they care about. Throughout the day, the girls will meet with elected and appointed Maine leaders. With 98 other young ladies from other schools around the state, they will learn the ins and outs of the legislative process through activities led by State House lobbyists, journalists and volunteer mentors. Girls’ Day at the State House is sponsored by the Maine Women’s Policy Center.
Casco Bay exchange group receives grant
The Casco Bay exchange students and staff at Easton High School received a Members are Leaders grant in the amount of $500 from the Maine Education Association. The students at Easton will use this money to travel to Casco Bay High School, a standards-based expeditionary school, in May. While there students will discover what it is like to go to a larger urban school district and learn about the culture of the community. Students from CBSH visited Easton High School last September and learned about the culture of a rural high school and the culture of Aroostook County. The students and staff from Easton want to thank the MEA for helping to make this final step of the exchange a possibility!
