Three off to state swim meet

Austin Scott of Caribou will compete in the 200-yard freestyle and the 100 butterfly, Andrew Craft of the Maine School of Science and Mathematics in Limestone the 100 backstroke and the 100 breaststroke and Alexis Coiley of Fort Fairfield in the 200 IM and the 500 freestyle at the upcoming state championship swim meets.    All three athletes qualified this past winter. The boys’ meet is set for Tuesday at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, while the girls’ competition will be held the previous day, also in Brunswick.
The Vikings sent athletes to Husson University in Bangor over the weekend for the Penobscot Valley Conference championships.
The boys were able to register 11 points, good for 13th place ovrall, behind Scott, who was fourth in the 100 butterfly in 1:00.44 and ninth in the 200 freestyle in 2:08.21.
The Caribou girls scored four points to finish 13th.
The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Courtney Cote, Conner Spencer, Kristyn Maley and Olivia Engstrom was 13th in 2:37.42 and the 400 freestyle relay team, made up of the same swimmers, 11th in 5:11.
Maley was 21st in the 50 freestyle in 31.09 seconds and Spencer 27th in the 100 breaststroke in 1:38.43 for coach Erin Tateishi-Ouellette’s Caribou squad.
