PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — In continued Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department grades 3-4 co-ed basketball league action, Indiana held off Duke, 18-14. The winners spread the wealth with four players getting into the box score. Both Cavin Cleaves and Devin Osse led the way with six points each, Breygan Mahan added four points and Emily Bemis added a basket. Duke was led by McKenna Mathie’s eight points, while Jordan Higgins had six. The next slate of games started off with Florida earning a 25-20 victory over North Carolina. Florida’s Josh Nadeau led the way with 14 points with Logan Akeley adding six points and Matt Butler chipping in with five. North Carolina has improved every game and is inching closer to earning a win. UNC was led by Kaden Tardif with 10 points. Jackson Maynard had eight and Chase Cloukey a pair.
Also that afternoon, Georgetown, behind Cummings’ 20 points, downed Indiana, 27-9. Noah Yarema added two layups and Ben Beaulieu had three points. For Indiana, Osse had a team-high five points, with Bemis adding a fourth-quarter basket.
In the last game of the day, Duke and Michigan showcased their talents. Xavier McAtee had a game-high 16 points, followed by Higgins with 10 and Mia Casavant with two as Duke claimed a 28-24 win. Michigan’s Caleb Nash led the way with 13 points, while Dawson Beaulieu had nine and Asher Tuttle scored a basket.
Georgetown hosted Florida in another recent contest and Georgetown prevailed, 27-21. The winners were led by Cummings, who went 4 for 6 from the foul line and scored seven field goals for a total of 18 points. Teammate Yarema added six points, with point guard Beaulieu adding three more.
Florida was led by Nadeau’s 18 points with Jacob Watt adding a jumper and Akeley making a foul shot.
North Carolina registered its first win, topping Indiana, 17-15. Tardif led the way for his team by scoring nine points, with teammates Maynard and Cloukey adding six and two, respectively. Indiana’s Osse had a game-high 11 points, with eight of them scored in the second quarter. Teammates Cleaves and Mahan both added two points.
Florida topped Oregon, 20-16, with Nadeau scoring all the points for the winners. Oregon’s attack was led by Faith Sjoberg, who scored 10 and added three assists as well to teammates Ryllan Thibault (four points) and Cade Ennis (two).
In other action, Michigan stopped Indiana, 32-16, with five different players scoring for the victors. Tuttle had a game-high 18 points with Nash adding eight. Also scoring for the Wolverines were Dawson Beaulieu, Braydon Jackson and Riley Robbins, who registered two points apiece. Indiana was led by Osse with 10, Bemis with two, Cleaves with two and David Rayner with two.
On a tripleheader day at the William Haskell Community Center last Tuesday, Georgetown and Duke kicked off the afternoon of hoops. Georgetown’s point guard Ben Beaulieu notched a season-high 12 points with teammate Cummings adding 12 of his own with Yarema dumping in six more. Duke was led by McAtee with 20 points before he fouled out of the game in the first minute of the third quarter. Teammates Higgins and Mathie tried to keep the game within striking distance, both adding four points in the fourth quarter, but Duke fell by two, 30-28.
In the middle game, Oregon just got past UNC, 25-22. Oregon’s Sjoberg had a team-high 11 points with Ennis adding six points, Corey White four and Landon McDougal and Thibault both with baskets. For UNC, Maynard had a game-high 12 points with Tardif adding eight and Cloukey a jumper for two more. In the final game of the session Florida rolled to a 28-19 triumph over Indiana. Florida’s Nadeau had a game-high 19 points while teammates Butler and Akeley added six and four, respectively. Indiana was led by Mahan with six points, while Cleaves and Rayner both added a hoop apiece.
Georgetown got past Michigan, 34-21, to kick off Thursday’s action. Georgetown’s Cummings had a game-high 14 points with Yarema tallying a season-high 12 points and Ben Beaulieu added eight of his own. Michigan’s Caleb Nash led the Wolverines with eight points followed by Dawson Beaulieu with seven and Tuttle with six.
In another matchup North Carolina and Duke went head-to-head with Duke squeaking out a 30-24 win. Duke’s McAtee had a game-high 18 points while Higgins scored 10 and Mathie adding a basket for the winners. UNC’s Cloukey had a career-high 10 points with Tardif scoring eight points and going 6 for 6 from the foul line. Maynard chipped in with six points of his own.
Oregon doubled up on Indiana, 24-12, behind Sjoberg’s game-high 16 points. Thibault added four and Ennis and McDougal both had a pair. Indiana’s attack was led by backboard genius Osse, who scored eight points. Mahan and Rayner both chipped in with field goals in the loss.
