The 2014 Winter Ball, hosted by the 2013 Easton queens Cassandra Buck and Anna Tompkins, is set to be held Jan. 31.
The Ball will be held from 6-10 p.m. and is open to all area students 7th grade and up. It will be held at the Easton Odd fellows Hall. Cost is $6 at the door. Food and drink are included, as well as a live DJ. All proceeds will help sponsor the upcoming 2014 Easton Community Fundraising Pageant. For any additional questions, call Tina at 768-0798.
Happy Days meeting
The Easton Senior Happy Days Club met Thursday, Jan. 9, with a potluck dinner. There were 13 members and two guests in attendance. The guests were: Town Manager Jim Gardner and Joe King.
Jim was the speaker and discussed many interesting facts and projects, including completion of the medical building, medical services, removal of two houses on Station Street and the new three-company building to be added at a later date. Members had many questions and appreciated all the details and explanations. Many new projects are to be completed this coming year.
The meeting was opened by President Nina Trask with a salute to the flag and the singing of “My Country Tis of Thee,” accompanied by Liana DeMerchant at the piano. Roll call was by Ida Doak with the following members present: Nina and John Trask, Ida Doak, Ezalee Smith, Marie Hewitt, Arlene Ladner, Liana Demerchant, Dan and Joan Turner, Hollis Hull, Barbara Bonville, Sally Strout and Irene Dufont.
The club selected a nomination committee for the new officers for 2014. Installation of the new officers took place Jan. 20.
All Easton seniors are invited to attend the club meetings; a bring a friend for delicious dinners and interesting afternoons.
Upcoming Rec programs
The Easton Recreation Department is currently selling Holloway sweatshirts. Color choices are navy or royal and the cost is $35. Sizes available are adult XXS, XS, S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL (there will be a higher price for 2&3XL). Orders must be received by Jan. 31 but can be paid for when they come in. Wednesday, Jan. 29 — Junior Activities at the Hall from 9:30-11 a.m. Senior Swagger at 1 p.m. in the Manor Recreation Room. BOKWA after-school at the Hall until 4:15 p.m. Grades 5 and 6 co-ed basketball practice from 4:30-6 p.m.
Thursday, Jan. 30 — Grades 5 and 6 co-ed basketball vs. Ashland at 3:30 p.m. at home.
Friday, Jan. 31 — Junior Activities at the Hall from 9:30-11 a.m. Senior Backwards Day starting at 11:15 a.m. in the Recreation Room at the Manor. Little Bears’ cheerleading after school in the cafeteria until 4 p.m.
Saturday, Feb. 1 — Little Bears first and second grade practice from 9-10 a.m. in the elementary school gym. Little Bears third and fourth grade practice from 10-11:15 a.m. in the elementary school gym. Grades 5 and 6 boys’ basketball practice from 11:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. in the elementary school gym.
Monday, Feb. 3 — Adult Nutrition class at the Manor starting at 11 a.m. The cost is $3. After-school cooking program at the Hall until 4:15 p.m.
Tuesday, Feb. 4 — Fifth and sixth grade basketball game at Washburn at 5 p.m.
Wednesday, Feb. 5 — Junior Activities at the Hall from 9:30-11 a.m. BigRock field trip, departing from the elementary school at 3 p.m. Contact the Recreation Department to register and for more information. Grades 5 and 6 co-ed basketball practice from 4:30-6 p.m.
