Free skating at the Forum
The Fort Fairfield Parks and Recreation Department will provide free skating at the Forum in Presque Isle for all Fort Fairfield residents through Feb. 23, which is the end of school vacation. In order to gain access to the Forum for free skating, each Fort Fairfield resident must present at the Forum ticket window a picture identification that includes a proof of residency. Skaters are responsible for providing their own skates (skates are available to borrow from the parks and recreation department for the season). For more information, call 472-3882.
Adult basketball league
The parks and recreation department is currently running an adult full court basketball league with games being played on Monday and Thursday evenings at the community center gymnasium.
Registration is now open for the spring adult basketball league scheduled to begin play on Feb. 10. The deadline to register a team for the spring league is Feb. 6 and can be done by calling 472-3882. The cost is $100 per team to participate and each team is guaranteed to play a minimum of 12 games during the season.
Youth travel basketball teams
The parks and recreation department youth travel team basketball program for both boys and girls is now underway. Any of the girls in grades 4-6, and any of the boys in grades 5 and 6 who are currently participating in the youth basketball program are eligible to participate on the travel teams. Both the boys and girls teams will play approximately 14 games this season against other recreation department teams from throughout Aroostook County. There is no charge to participate. 7th and 8th grade AYBL teams
Fort Fairfield will enter both a boys’ and girls’ team in the Aroostook Youth Basketball League for seventh- and eight-graders. Each team will have an opportunity to play approximately 12 games this season with games getting underway the week of Feb. 10. Those interested in playing should contact the parks and recreation department.
Indoor walking, running and exercise
The Fort Fairfield Community Center Gymnasium and exercise area are open to the public for walking, running, and exercise Monday through Friday from 6 a.m.-noon, except holidays.
