HOULTON and PRESQUE ISLE – Priscilla E. Ryan, 92, passed away January 15, 2014, at a local nursing home. She was born November 5, 1921 in Blue Hill, the daughter of Roy and Mary (Leighton) Henderson.
Priscilla graduated from George Stevens Academy, Blue Hill and Bangor School of Commerce. She married Robert Hartford and lived in Presque Isle for 20 years. She was a member and Past Matron of Lunar Chapter OES No. 126 of Presque Isle. She moved to Bangor in 1962 and was employed at Husson College for ten years and Jefferson Manor for three years. After retiring, she became a volunteer at Bangor Red Cross Blood Bank and Bangor Mental Health Institute. A member of Bangor-Brewer YMCA, she formed the Kitchen Krew Band, entertaining at nursing homes and other organizations for several years. Priscilla was also a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, ECW and the Altar Guild. She was also a member of the YMCA Couples Club, Athene Club and Epsilon Delta Alumnae Sorority and R.S.V.P. She moved to Houlton in 1999 and became a member of the Church of Good Shepherd.
She is survived by her two grandchildren, Michael Hartford of Portland and Kimberly Hartford of Houlton; four great-grandchildren; brother, Roy “Bud” Henderson of Huntsville, AL; nephew, Bruce Henderson; grand-niece, Rachel Henderson; stepdaughter, Carole Dillworth and her husband, Timothy of Fredericton, NB; stepson, Allen Ryan and his wife, Claudia of Saco; six step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and two cousins in Blue Hill. She was predeceased by her husband, Byron Ryan; and her son, Wayne Hartford.
Funeral services were held 1 p.m. on Monday, January 20, with Deacon Al Burleigh officiating. Spring interment will be held in the Fairmount Cemetery, Presque Isle.
