MARS HILL, Maine — A local man was arrested in connection with a burglary involving the theft of medication and other items at a Main Street residence Saturday.
“On Jan. 18, just after 1:30 p.m., the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office received a call reporting that an apartment on Main St. in Mars Hill had been burglarized. Deputies responded and learned that several bottles of prescription medicines, clothing and jewelry had been stolen,” said Chief Deputy Darrell Crandall, of the ACSO.
Crandall said subsequent investigation led deputies to a local man.
“The same day, deputies developed evidence that identified 22-year-old Renaldo Jones, of Mars Hill, as a suspect. Jones was subsequently located at Scovil Apartments (located on Route 1A) in Mars Hill and arrested. Jones has been charged with burglary, stealing drugs, theft and violation of conditions of release,” said Crandall.
Jones was also charged following an incident earlier the same day.
“Jones is also charged with assaulting an adult female in Mars Hill shortly before encountering the deputies. She was not seriously injured,” said Crandall, who did not identify the victim.
Jones was transported to the Aroostook County Jail in Houlton, where he remains.
“Sheriff’s deputies recovered most of the medication, all of the clothing and all of the jewelry, with the assistance of the Sheriff’s Office police dog, Maxx,” Crandall said.
“Jones will make an initial appearance in Caribou Superior Court on April 22.
“To report criminal activity to the Sheriff’s Office, call 800-432-7842 or use our MyPD smartphone application for iPhone and Android,” said Crandall.
