PORTLAND — More Mainers can quickly email photos, download music, participate in e-learning and video conferencing now that FairPoint Communications has expanded broadband service to 290 homes and businesses in the towns of Portage Lake and Ashland.

Since April 2008, FairPoint has invested more than $200 million in its communications infrastructure and technology to bring Internet coverage to northern New England, including building thousands of miles of new fiber across the region. FairPoint’s new fiber-based, high capacity network offers customers a better, faster way to communicate.
“Broadband access opens doors to the world for the residents and businesses in Maine and is fundamental to the state’s future economic growth,” said Mike Reed, FairPoint’s Maine state president. “Our employees are working every day to build more broadband across the state. We are pleased to announce the availability of high-speed Internet for these residents in Portage Lake and Ashland.”
High-speed connection areas include portions of the following Portage Lake roads: Birch Point, Cottage, Country Club, Fish Lake, Fox Hill, Hayward, Morning Drive, Mountain, Overlook Drive, Patriot Drive, Portage, Ranger, School, Sly Drive, Stockford, Sutherland, Route 11 and West.
Ashland roads include Brooks, Clark Siding, Main and Stuart.
