PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — In continued Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department grades 3-4 co-ed basketball league action,    Florida and Duke hit the hardwood in a game that proved to be a “barn burner”  and finished in a 29-29 tie. Florida’s Josh Nadeau had a game-high 23 points with teammates, Matt Butler, Jacob Watt and Logan Akeley all chipping in baskets. As for Duke, Jordan Higgins led the way with 14 points with Xavier McAtee adding 11 and McKenna Mathie four.
In the nightcap, Michigan took on red-hot Oregon and Faith Sjoberg had a season-high 28 points in the 32-16 rout of Michigan. Landon McDougal and Garrett Fullen both added hoops in the winning effort.  Michigan’s attack was led by Caleb Nash with 12 points. Dawson Beaulieu chipped in two baskets.
As the week progressed, No. 1 Oregon took on No. 2 Georgetown. Georgetown may have broken the code for defending Sjoberg by using additional length. Noah Yarema may have earned the defensive player of the season award by holding Sjoberg, who had been averaging nearly 16 points per game, to only nine in a 25-17 Hoya win. Helping Sjoberg were teammates Ryllan Thibault, Corey White, Cade Ennis and McDougal, who all had two points. Georgetown was led by Malachi Cummings with 15 points, including six in the fourth period. Yarema added six points, with Ben Beaulieu and Jack Hallett both hitting layups.
Also that day, Michigan’s Beaulieu had a game-high 13 points with Asher Tuttle adding 10 of his own and Caleb Nash tallying eight in the 27-15 triumph over North Carolina, which was led by Kaden Tardif’s seven points and Jackson Maynard and Chase Cloukey, who had four each.
